Sarah is the founder of Joy Equestrian, an initiative that knits together her education and experience in mental health nursing and her love and respect for the wisdom of horses. The core values of Joy Equestrian are growth, learning, and listening.
Different horses have come into Sarah’s life at different times: Sparky, Buddy, Melville, and Freckles, and now Dez, her current equine partner. Together they are learning relaxation and suppleness in their dressage training. Sarah is a candidate in the Equine Diploma at the University of Guelph, and has found significant meaning in her own path of Equine Assisted Learning certification with EAL Canada. Her goal is to offer a bridge to horses and wellness through the work of EAL.
“Your joy is your sorrow unmasked” – Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931)
All of us know sorrow and pain. At times we run from it, bury it, hide from it, avoid it and in so doing, confuse ourselves and lose our direction. The pain speaks too loudly to let us hear our inner voice.
And yet, as Kahlil Gibran goes on to say, “The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.”
We do not need to stay attached to our pain, we can learn from it, grow from it, and experience tears of joy instead of harm. The path that will bring you the most joy may need some clearing and horses know all about helping humans with that!
